April Ross

April Ross is only one of the beach volleyball athletes to win medals at least twice in an Olympics. In Tokyo in the coming days she will attempt to win her third gold medal alongside the first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross aims to earn her Olympic first gold medal, but she's also hoping to earn even more. At 39, it may be her last chance. She remains optimistic that she can achieve top honors. Ross, via NBC Boston, said that If the team is performing very well, or even at all, they could win a gold. That's why I'm taking the chance as well. Ross was born in Costa Mesa, California in 1982. Her parents and sister resided there. Ross's athletic endeavors began at Newport Harbor High School where she participated in several activities. Apart from the indoor game, she also played basketball and jogged track as a pre-collegiate athlete. She stood out however during this game. Through her high school years, she was a middle blocker outside hitter and setter on the volleyball court per her bio at the college. In recognition of her accomplishments she was awarded the Gatorade Award for the National Player of 1999. Her volleyball skills also won her an Orange County Athlete of the Years trophy in 2000. Ross and Klineman might have started working together in the year 2017, however Ross was already an established athlete at the beach prior to when they came together. In reality, she was a winner of several major championships while playing in the past with two different partners. among them an icon of volleyball. Jennifer Kessy was her partner during six years from 2007 until 2013. She also coached Klineman as well as herself. Kessy and Ross were an impressive force on the international arena, taking home the world championship in 2009 with each other. This duo went through to take home a silver medal in the 2012 Olympic Games at London. Misty May, Kerri Walsh and Kerri Jennings were the team to beat out for gold. Ross Jennings was May-Treanor's replacement as she left the team. The pair were able to win bronze in beach volleyball during the Rio Olympics in the year 2016. Ross was a college athlete at USC Trojans prior to beginning the start of her professional career. She was a player in high school, and even years prior to hitting the beach as a professional. Ross had an impressive run during her time in college. In 2000 she was voted Pac-10 Freshman as well as NCAA Freshman of the Year, and was also an All-American. In 2000, her Trojans also reached the Final Four. She was devastated through a tragedy in her life during her sophomore year. However, she managed to become an All-American in her second year. In her last two seasons in the program she led the Trojans towards the summit of the mountain netting successive national titles. She had established her place as a legend by winning the 2003-2004 Honda Sports Award as the most outstanding female college volleyball player. Ross played international relations as a major at USC. Margie Ross was never able to see her daughter reach the top of beach volleyball. Ross's mom Margie passed away in 2001. Ross was still an USC sophomore. She had breast cancer. She continues to remember her deceased parent close and close. Margie is an inspiration both on and off at the beach.
