Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017, and quickly became the top-streamed track within 6 months. This mixture of reggaeton, and pop music did not just draw interest back to the style, but also to Latin music as a whole. Billboard's Top 100 had four songs during 2016, which was compared with two songs from 2015. During the height of Despacito's popularity in 2017, however, 19 mostly Spanish tracks made the Top 100 In 2020, there were 41 of them. After Justin Bieber's remix in two languages from Despacito (2017) popular artists soon began collaborating with reggaeton performers including Drake together with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) and Madonna and Maluma on Medellin (2019). In the years 2020, many Reggaeton performers were complaining about the direction of the genre towards the mainstream. However, a younger generation Rauw Alejandro, was keen to maintain the development. He often used elements of electronic dance music in addition to other styles.
